Before I publish part two of Wychwood festival coverage thought we would share with you some extra images and words about a young band called the Affairs who really shone out at Wycwhood festival, hailing from Hull University, their creativity and maturity in music writing and presence on stage surpassed their presusumed years of age. It is can be all too easy to flimsily compare one muscian or band to another, but I think it is quite a natural thing to do. The four piece band fronted by vocalist James Robinson possessed an unlikely voice, I know we should not presume from a front cover, but this young musicians voice had superb richness and depth of character just led me to raise an eyebrow, on listening to their song Cours-la-Reine I found myself thinking… “oh Talking Heads, no…. Two Door Cinema Club…. oh hang on perhaps Orange Juice”. No matter what flourishing notes that echo to my ears, what little resemblance to others music they remind me of, there is no doubt that these lads definitely have a strong identity of their own, intensely infectious music that leaves a footprint in the back of your head! They describe themselves as “electro sample mash-up with oriental focused and influenced guitar parts” but make up your own mind don’t take my word for it!
