Darren my photographic partner and fortunately for me my husband (ssh and love of my life) has also been wrestling with the thoughts of colour v black and white photography, he went out last Sunday with the intention of doing a little landscape photography for a feature to be submitted into the developing Fotokozo project. I love the images he captured of the Tithe Barn which has been the muse of many a photographer. Below is one image from his expedition that I am very fond of, I love the composition, the sense of stillness from the scene, these images show the power of emotion and atmosphere and how it can be transformed by the choice of colour, use of filters to enhance colour or the simplicity of monochrome, the wonder of black and white images never cease to leave me puzzled, by taking something away that is naturally part of nature seems to add more in intimacy, I wonder if by taking away the colours our imagination steps in and we are able to tap into a sensory decoder that our brains use to try and make sense of what we see before us. What do you think?
no contest for me on this one.. I completely love the colour version…what lens was Darren using?
Personally when I look at the b&w version of this my brain just sees b&w and doesn’t seem to think about colour and seems happy with that.. Lots of people are colour blind so I can’t be sure for example that what you see is what I see anyway 😉
